Collector makes Thar, Fortuner owners take road safety pledge, video goes viral

NEW DELHI: The Daman administration has brought together owners of Mahindra Thar and Toyota Fortuner SUVs as part of a road-safety initiative amid growing online discussion around the two vehicles.A large number of Thar and Fortuner owners took part in the “Thar-Fortuner Sankalp Yatra” and a road safety pledge administered by the district collector, the administration said in a post on X on Wednesday.The administration also tagged Mahindra chairman Anand Mahindra in the post.“Thar and Fortuner owners participating in the ‘Thar-Fortuner Sankalp Yatra’ and taking the Road Safety Pledge administered by district collector,” the post said.A video shared with the post shows Fortuners and Thars lined up together as part of the rally. A banner at the event carries the message, “Raftaar nahi, sansakar” (Not speed, but values).Reacting to the video, Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw praised the initiative. “I think India needs this kind of ‘schooling’ more than another driving lesson! Commendable move by the Daman Collector,” she said in a post on X.“Making Thar and Fortuner owners take an oath to drive safely, sometimes a little public pledge may work better than a thousand road signs!” she added.The initiative comes amid continued public debate online over the image of the two SUVs.The Daman administration did not link the campaign to any specific accident or incident. Instead, its post presented the gathering as an effort to encourage responsible driving and road safety.
