Bargaining over photo frame price ends in seller’s murder

Rajkot: A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death after an altercation over the price of a photo frame at a fair in the Vachhera area of Gondal late on Wednesday night. Police said another man was also injured in the fracas.The deceased was identified as Ramashankar alias Deepak Barman. Gondal City police registered a case against five persons named in the FIR and four unidentified persons.The complaint was filed by 26-year-old Sujal alias Sunny Sharma, a native of Prayagraj who lives in Vachhera and ran a photo-frame stall at the fair.According to the complaint, a around nine men approached the stall to buy photo frames and began bargaining with Barman over prices. When the stall operators refused to lower their prices, the group moved to a nearby paan shop.The men allegedly picked up a container from the shop and started walking away. When Vishal, the stall owner, noticed this, he stopped them and asked them to return the container. An argument broke out, during which the men allegedly abused and assaulted Vishal.As other stall operators rushed to the spot, one of the accused, described as a bearded man wearing a white shirt with brown and green stripes, allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Barman on the right side of his chest. Barman collapsed, bleeding heavily. When Vishal intervened, he too was stabbed.Police personnel stationed near the fair gate rushed to the spot. The accused tried to flee, but police chased them down and managed to apprehend five of the suspects.Barman was taken to a nearby hospital on a scooter by a person at the fair, while Vishal was taken to Krishna Hospital and later shifted to Gondal Govt Hospital, where he was informed that Barman had died.Investigating officer J S Gadhvi said police arrested five men. They were identified as Rahul Raju Dodiya, Sameer Akbar Sumra, Alfaz Rafiq Sheikh, Nawaz Irfan Dodhiya and Asfakh Majid Juneja. All five are residents of the Vora Kotda Road area of Gondal.They have been booked for murder, attempted murder, unlawful assembly and rioting.
