Varanasi: A 52-year-old saree businessman from Pandeypur is in critical condition after allegedly shooting himself with his licensed pistol on Thursday morning. He was rushed to the BHU Trauma Centre, where doctors found a bullet lodged in his head.The trader, identified as Vijendra Soni, was admitted to the BHU Trauma Centre. Doctors said surgery is expected after an X-ray examination.According to reports, the incident took place near his residence on Azamgarh Road at Pandeypur crossing under the Cantt police station area. Soni had stepped out for a morning walk when a gunshot was heard a short distance from his home.Family members and nearby residents rushed to the spot and took him to hospital. His family said everything appeared normal at home and expressed shock over the incident.Soni and his brothers are well-known businessmen in the Pandeypur area. They run major jewellery and saree establishments under one roof, with Soni managing the saree retail business.The reason behind the alleged suicide attempt is not yet known.
