Panaji: GFP has written to chief secretary Candavelou asking him to direct the authorities to process and release all pending salaries of the 458 teaching and non-teaching employees without further delay, in accordance with the directions of the high court and the assurance given on the floor of the state assembly.GFP president Vijai Sardesai said govt should approve the pending appointment of teachers expeditiously. He said that the continuation of the dispute between the govt and the Diocesan Society of Education management cannot result in employees being deprived of their salaries indefinitely. He said that the lengthy delay has led to “serious financial and humanitarian consequences” for teachers who have been rendering their services in the schools despite not receiving their rightful salaries. The Diocesan Society of Education runs 138 schools in Goa.Chief minister Pramod Sawant had assured the legislative assembly that salaries of the 458 teachers employed by Goa Diocesan Society of Education schools will be released soon and that vacant posts in the diocesan schools will also be sanctioned and appointed. “If the diocesesan schools have the strength, then we will 100% give permanent posts. Within eight days I will grant the permissions. I will seek legal opinion and release the salaries,” the CM had said.“ln spite of this assurance, no action has been initiated till date,” said Sardesai.
