Lucknow: Around 220 people participated in a nutrition and health awareness programme organised at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) on Tuesday to mark National Nutrition Month 2026.Held around the theme “Discover the power of nutrition – Eat right, live well”, the programme focused on the importance of balanced diets, healthy lifestyles and basic life-saving skills during medical emergencies.A practical session on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic life support (BLS) was conducted under the leadership of cardiology department head Prof Aditya Kapoor, with former senior physician Dr Prerna Kapoor and Neema Pant assisting.Participants were taught to recognise the early signs of cardiac arrest and were given hands-on training in CPR and other emergency response techniques.Experts highlighted the role of adequate nutrition in maintaining physical and mental health, strengthening immunity and improving quality of life. A cross-talk and panel discussion on “Power of nutrition: Gateway to health” also focused on making informed dietary choices part of everyday life.A separate discussion covered the importance of exercise and heart health. The programme also recognised kitchen service staff for their contribution to patient care. Employees involved in providing dietary and kitchen services were presented with awards of excellence and certificates for their work.The organisers said nutrition should be viewed not only as an individual health concern but also as an important component of family and community health. They stressed that safe, hygienic and nutritious food was an integral part of comprehensive patient care.
