Rajkot: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Jamnagar district over the past few days, police said, adding that complaints in both cases were registered on Monday night.In the first incident, 36-year-old Manoj Maji was critically injured after a car hit a moped near Anandpar village on the Jamnagar-Rajkot highway on the night of Sep 4. He died while undergoing treatment at a govt hospital in Rajkot.According to the complaint, Maji, a native of Odisha who lived with his family in Anandpar, was travelling as a pillion rider with a friend to buy household items. The two were crossing the highway near a college when a speeding car hit their moped.Maji sustained a serious head injury and was shifted to Rajkot for treatment. Doctors declared him dead at around 1.50am on Monday.Police said the car driver briefly stopped after the accident but fled the spot soon afterwards. Based on a complaint filed by Maji’s wife, Mansi, Kalavad rural police registered a case and launched an investigation.In the second incident, Meru Santhalpara was killed after the motorcycle he was riding with his younger brother, Vishal, collided with a car near Vadwala village on Monday.The brothers were returning home after completing work in Satapar village when a car travelling at high speed hit their vehicle head-on. Meru sustained serious injuries on his head and died during treatment.Jamjodhpur police have registered a case under Sections 106(1), 281, 125(A) and 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 177 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA). Police said further investigation is underway.
