Silchar: An eight-month-old girl was found dead in a pond on the premises of her family’s home in Hailakandi district on Monday.The infant, identified as Minakshi Das, was found missing after her mother woke up in the morning. Her husband had gone to the washroom. The mother told police that the child was sleeping beside her when she last saw her.After searching the room and alerting family members, they found the infant’s body floating in a pond on the premises. Neighbours later informed police.Police recovered the body and sent it to SK Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi for autopsy.Police said it was not immediately clear how the infant reached the pond. An investigation is underway to determine whether the death was accidental or involved foul play.The family has demanded a thorough probe and action against anyone found responsible.
