Agartala: Tripura has achieved universal health coverage through Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and the state-funded CM-JAY scheme, chief minister Manik Saha claimed on Monday.Addressing a BJP gathering at Barjala, Saha said a large section of the population was covered under PM-JAY, while those excluded from the central scheme were being provided healthcare through CM-JAY.He said claims worth Rs 307 crore had been settled under PM-JAY, while the state had allocated an additional Rs 50 crore under CM-JAY.Highlighting the state’s progress in healthcare, Saha said Agartala Govt Medical College and Hospital had been ranked 131st among medical colleges in India. The number of MBBS seats in Tripura has risen to 500, with another 50 seats expected to be added, he said.Saha also said the proposed medical college at Ambassa in Dhalai district may offer 100 seats instead of the planned 50. Bandhan Group, which is constructing the institution, is considering the expansion, he added.The chief minister said a new civil hospital had been inaugurated in Agartala and that homoeopathic and Ayurveda medical colleges would begin functioning in Agartala and Udaipur from the next academic session.He also said Tripura had received more than 360 national awards across various categories. Saha urged BJP workers to strengthen public engagement and organisational activities and work towards turning their mandal into a model mandal.
