TNNNew Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the Satya Niketan building collapse.In a post on X, he said: “The collapse of a building at Satya Niketan, Delhi is distressing. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are working at the site and assisting those affected in the mishap.”Union home minister Amit Shah spoke to chief minister Rekha Gupta, the police commissioner and NDRF chief to take stock of the situation. He also called off his scheduled events in Goa. “The local administration and the NDRF are conducting intensive rescue operations in close coordination. The injured are being provided with all necessary medical assistance. Praying for the speedy recovery of all those injured,” Shah wrote on X.Delhi chief minister Gupta monitored the operation on the ground. The CMO said she also spoke to local MP Bansuri Swaraj and MLA Anil Sharma and took a report on the situation.Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the building collapse was deeply distressing and “an avoidable tragedy”.Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi described the incident as “extremely heartbreaking and alarming”. “In this hour of difficulty, we all stand with the victims and their families. Students’ lives were already filled with struggles — now the situation has turned life-threatening,” he said on X.Former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal described the collapse as “extremely tragic and alarming”. He expressed hope that those trapped under the debris would be rescued quickly. He alleged that negligence by govt had led to several such incidents in Delhi and it needs to “wake up from its slumber”.ABVP members protested outside the MCD office at Civic Centre, demanding the resignation of the MCD commissioner.
