Newborn's mutilated body parts found in Chamba

Shimla: The mutilated body parts of a newborn baby was found near Tikrigarh village of the Churah sub-division in Chamba district on Friday. Upon receiving information, a team from the Nakror police post arrived at the site and initiated an investigation. During a search of the surrounding area, the remaining body parts were also recovered. The information was first shared by a truck driver, who spotted the infant’s head, with the villagers and then the local police was intimated.The body parts have been sent for a postmortem to Chamba hospital and forensic examination. A scientific investigation covering all possible angles is underway to ascertain the child’s identity and the cause of death, said Tissa police station officials on Saturday evening. The postmortem report is expected on Tuesday. Apart from questioning the locals, the police are also collecting data from Asha workers about pregnant women and recent child deliveries. Preliminary findings suggest that there is a possibility that the infant’s body could have been mauled by animals.
