Ahmedabad: Tumbaliya is a small village in Meghraj taluka of Aravalli district, but its distance from major urban centres has not stopped students from accessing scholarships.The monthly scholarship amount not only sustains them in education but also ensures they remain attached to the school, all thanks to the efforts of Kaushalya Gameti, an assistant teacher.“The village is spread across a radius of nearly five kilometres, creating unique challenges in ensuring regular access to education. Attendance was an issue. Thus, the approach was to ensure that the students get interested in the studies — we ensured 100% implementation of the Pragya project, and achieved Nipun status in 2019,” she said.Her guidance also encouraged students to participate in competitive exams for teachers and other government jobs. About 11 students have so far secured position in CET exams. “It has ensured zero dropout,” she adds.Likewise, for Sunil Gaavit, head teacher at Sayajiganj Primary School No. 52 in Vadodara, research-based learning and student connect are what ensure good results and steady attendance.“About 21 students from our school have secured positions in the merit lists of the NMMS and Chief Minister Gyan Sadhana Merit Scholarship examinations. I also visit the homes of the students to know about their activities and ensure that they remain attached to the school and its activities,” he says.
