Status: Not ApprovedHEAD: 24_Mum_VS_Aurangabad_Dogs-crueltyByline: Vijay SinghAurangabad dog cruelty cases prompt demand for state probe by aaditya thackeray and maneka gandhiHead: Aurangabad dogs cruelty cases: State probe demanded by Aaditya Thackeray, Maneka GandhiVijay SinghNavi Mumbai: After a few horrific and ghastly videos of dog cruelty cases from Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) were put on social media, many animal activists and political leaders like Aaditya Thackeray and Maneka Gandhi wrote to the state CM to immediately enquire into the matter.Reportedly, several dogs were improperly and cruelly operated on, without anaesthesia, for neutering at an animal shelter in Aurangabad, which resulted in excessive pain and deaths of animals.The local civic body of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar assured action and started looking into it, following online complaints by shocked animal lovers and activists.Activists also questioned what treatment dogs will be given, in general, if all the stray dogs are locked up inside shelters.Many animal lovers were pessimistic and said that if the Supreme Court orders all dogs to be put in shelters, then the poor animals will suffer and die, which goes against India’s basic tenet of showing Ahimsa, or compassion.Activist Vijay Rangare of the Rakshak group, who will be personally visiting the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation on Wednesday to check the situation on the ground, stated: “Besides the botched-up sterilisations of the local stray dogs, we gathered that hundreds of dogs were also illegally relocated far away in a forest area, where the poor animals can starve to death. This is against the previous court orders of dropping the dogs back to their original territories after the sterilisation process is done.“Rangare added that the animal lovers do not want another “Telangana-like animal cruelty to be repeated at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, due to the misuse of funds meant for animal welfare.” In the Telangana state, at least 1,000 dogs were poisoned to death in rural areas by the ruling gram panchayats, in order to fulfil their election promise of “getting rid of dogs”.Other animal welfare groups like PETA India and People for Animals are also in touch with the civic body of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, urging them to send legal notices to at least 2 animal NGOs involved in this dog cruelty fiasco, whose videos have now gone viral on social networking sites.“It is unbearable to even watch how the local stray dogs are badly operated on for neutering, as they howl in pain and bleed. We wonder if qualified veterinarians are doing these operations or not. The investigators were also asked to check the educational qualifications of those involved in such surgeries,” said a Mumbai-based animal feeder and activist.On Tuesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray shared a copy of the complaint letter on X, in which he demanded an immediate probe into this dog cruelty matter from the CM.
