Gurgaon: More than 550 families in Satya The Hermitage in Sector 103 were left without power for over 14 hours after an outage that began around midnight and continued until about 2.30 pm on Friday. Residents said the outage has become a recurring problem, with power cuts occurring once or twice almost every week.Brij Kishore, one of the residents, said the power supply went off around midnight and was restored only at about 2:30 pm. “It was not clear what exactly caused the fault. At times, residents are told there is a problem at the power house, while at other times, a cable fault or a problem with a switching station is cited. Moreover, this is not a one-off incident. This year, the problem has become recurring. Such outages are happening once or twice every week. If there is a fault on the line serving one society, other societies also get affected,” he said.Residents said they had to rely on diesel generator (DG) backup during the outage. They added that while the backup helped keep essential services running, prolonged outages continued to add to the financial burden.Meanwhile, power supply was also disrupted in several other societies, including ATS Tourmaline, Brisk Lumbini, ATS Kocoon and ATS Caladium, due to a feeder breakdown, affecting electricity for more than five hours.Ajay Kumar, a resident of ATS Kocoon, said that the society was supposed to have a 33kV infrastructure, which the builder has not yet provided despite having collected a substantial amount from residents towards it. “Since 6 am, we have mostly been running on the generator and have received power supply for only around two hours. The problem is with the 11kV line provided by the builder. It was meant to be a temporary connection and has multiple joints, so faults keep developing at different points on the cable. The infrastructure was designed for a lower load when the society was only partially occupied. Now that occupancy has increased, the existing infrastructure is unable to sustain the load,” he said.When contacted, the DHBVN official said the outage at Satya The Hermitage was due to an internal fault within the society and not an issue at the department’s end. “The feeder from our side was functioning normally. There was a problem with the internal system of the society, due to which the supply was affected,” the official said.Regarding the outage at ATS Kocoon, he said there had been a temporary feeder breakdown, which was restored within a few hours. “The feeder can sometimes trip or break down while operating. The fault was attended to and the supply was restored within around two to two-and-a-half hours,” the official said.
