Gurgaon: Public feedback will now play a key role in deciding the performance and postings of station house officers (SHOs) in the district, commissioner of police Sibash Kabiraj has directed, and SHO performance will be assessed every month on the basis of public satisfaction, crime control, response time and quality of investigation.The directions were issued at a crime review meeting chaired by Kabiraj at the police commissioner’s office on Wednesday, attended by deputy and assistant commissioners of police, SHOs, post and crime branch in-charges.Cops who make complainants make unnecessary rounds of police stations will be identified and removed from public dealing duties, besides facing departmental action, the CP said. Where complaints of corruption, misbehaviour or negligence against police personnel are established, accountability will also be fixed on the SHO concerned. The officer said monthly meetings with the public will be held, where grievances will be heard.“Public trust is the greatest strength of the police, and public feedback is an important measure of the quality of policing,” Kabiraj said.Officials said the move is aimed at making police station-level functioning more citizen-centric and ensuring complaints are dealt with within a stipulated time. The CP directed officers to ensure respectful behaviour with complainants and time-bound action on complaints and FIRs. A ‘best SHO of the month’ will be selected based on feedback and performance, while personnel showing outstanding performance in arrests, investigations, prompt action and public service will be recognised and rewarded.On night policing, DCP-rank officers have been directed to conduct and monitor special patrolling every night, while ACP-rank officers will remain deployed at the police control room round the clock. PCR, emergency response vehicles, naka, beat and foot patrolling will be strengthened, particularly at crime hotspots, markets, industrial areas, bus stands, railway stations and other sensitive locations.The CP also directed officers to expedite pending and unsolved cases and improve the use of scientific and technical evidence in serious crimes. Action against drug traffickers and habitual offenders is to be intensified.The meeting also took up the safety of women, children and senior citizens, cybercrime, CCTV surveillance and traffic management. Police stations have been directed to keep emergency response plans ready for rain, waterlogging, fire and other disasters.
