Jind: The body of one of the two Army para commandos, who went missing during a training exercise at Hathnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar on Wednesday evening, was recovered from Jind on Thursday. The area from where the body was recovered is nearly 200 kilometres downstream from the site where the mishap occured.As per sources, the body was found in the Jind-Hansi Branch canal. Upon receiving information, rescue teams immediately reached the spot and recovered the body from the canal. According to the information available, the deceased has been identified as Lance Naik Patil Rohit Narayan, a resident of Maharashtra.According to officials, a training exercise involving the Army’s Special Forces was underway in the Hathnikund Barrage area. During the exercise, five commandos were caught in a strong current. While three of them managed to make it to safety, two, including Lance Naik Patil, went missing.Following the incident, the Army, police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched an extensive search operation. Teams searched various stretches of the river and the Western Yamuna Canal in an effort to trace the missing personnel.After the body was recovered, it was taken to the police lines in Jind. Following this, permission was obtained for an Army helicopter to land at the police lines.As soon as the Army helicopter arrived, the body was immediately shifted from an ambulance to the helicopter. Sources said the transfer was completed within around 10 minutes. Sources said the body was initially scheduled to undergo a post-mortem examination at Jind general hospital. However, the Army later decided to take the deceased soldier’s body to Chandigarh.
