Gandhinagar: A two-day ‘Open Hearing and Camp Sitting’ organised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) began in Gandhinagar on Wednesday. NHRC chairperson Justice V Ramasubramanian and two other members heard complainants from across the state.Top officials from the administration and police officers from various districts were also present as the NHRC heard explanations from state agencies on complaints of human rights violations.Human rights activist Kantilal Parmar, who was present at the hearing, said he raised the issue of non-allocation of land to members of SC and ST communities. “NHRC asked me to provide specific instances and assured action in this regard,” he said.On Thursday, the commission will continue hearing cases. The members are also expected to interact with representatives of NGOs and civil society organisations.
