Guwahati: Assam released the fourth instalment of flood assistance on Tuesday and announced expanded foreign-language training for overseas employment.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the release of Rs 15,000 each to 16,746 flood-affected families in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat. A total of Rs 25.12 crore was transferred, taking interim flood assistance released so far to Rs 175.64 crore for 1,17,095 households.The govt has also provided support for bank moratoriums and insurance claims following the floods. Restoration work at Anganwadi centres, namghars, schools and other public infrastructure has cost around Rs 330 crore, Sarma said.Under the CM’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT), Sarma presented cheques to institutions including ASEAN Assam Academy, MIRAI Japanese Learning Centre and Jacex Ventures LLP. The scheme provides each student Rs 1 lakh during prescribed training and Rs 50,000 after successful placement.Sarma said workforce shortages in countries such as Japan and Singapore created opportunities for skilled youth from Assam. He urged young people to acquire relevant skills and said CM-FLIGHT and the CM’s Jibon Prerana Scheme aimed to develop a globally competitive workforce.Under Jibon Prerana, 47,505 Aadhaar-linked fresh graduates received assistance. Each beneficiary gets Rs 2,500 per month for 12 months. Payments for April to July 2026, delayed by the Model Code of Conduct during the Assembly elections, are now being released. Around 1,000 more beneficiaries will receive assistance after Aadhaar-related issues are resolved.The scheme supported 48,366 graduates in 2025 and resumed for 2026-27 on Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev Tithi.Sarma also announced English and Japanese language training at five GNM institutes to prepare nurses for overseas employment.
