Ghaziabad: Work on the Hapur Chungi elevated road will begin this month after the tender for the project was awarded to a company. Officials said the project is expected to be completed within nine months and opened to traffic by June next year.The Hapur Chungi roundabout handles traffic from Kavinagar, RNE, DM office and police lines, and sees bottlenecks even during non-peak hours, as vehicles heading in different directions currently have to negotiate the junction that has no grade separation. Many commuters heading towards Hapur also use the city roads—Surdas Marg and Rani Jhansi Marg—via the intersection instead of NH-9 or DME, adding to the already heavy local traffic.“The project report for Hapur Chungi flyover is ready, and the project is estimated to cost Rs 125 crore,” said a Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) official.The flyover will provide direct access from RNE township to Diamond Flyover, which is connected to NH-9 near Kavinagar Industrial Area. The stretch, running from RNE towards Kavinagar and Shastri Nagar, will bypass Hapur Chungi roundabout, enabling free traffic flow to and from the police lines side.Officials said the 1.2-km-long, four-lane flyover will begin near ALT junction and descend on Surdas Marg, about 500 metres ahead of Diamond Flyover.The Thakurdwara-Dasna stretch forms Ghaziabad’s administrative nerve centre, flanked by the offices of GDA and Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, police lines, Rajnagar District Centre, Ghaziabad Court, including the CBI court, police headquarters, the collectorate, the passport office and other central and state govt offices. Once complete, the elevated road is expected to bring relief to commuters travelling towards Dasna as well.
