Rajkot: Porbandar local crime branch (LCB) busted a unit that was manufacturing and storing adulterated ghee in the Chhaya area under the jurisdiction of Kamlabag police station on Tuesday.Police seized 135kg of suspected adulterated ghee and 734kg of vanaspati ghee (vegetable fat) that was allegedly being used as raw material to produce the spurious product.Police apprehended 50-year-old Nagajan Dasa, a resident of the Gandhi Ashram area, who was allegedly involved in preparing and storing the adulterated ghee.Nine tins containing 15kg each of suspected adulterated ghee, totalling 135kg, were seized. Police also recovered 49 boxes of ‘Fresh Co‘ brand vegetable fat, each weighing 15kg, with for total quantity of 734kg.A food safety officer was called to the spot to take samples for laboratory testing. The entire stock was sealed and legal proceedings were initiated against Dasa under the food and drugs laws.Police said the raid is part of a statewide crackdown on the manufacture and sale of spurious food products. In recent operations, Porbandar LCB uncovered an alleged counterfeit ghee manufacturing unit in Nava Kumbharwada and a spurious milk production unit in Timbi Nesh village within the Kutiyana police station limits.
