Porvorim: Responding to concerns over unhygienic food preparation and storage, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said he would direct food and drug administration (FDA) to inspect departmental canteens and eateries at schools, hospitals and other public institutions.“I will ask the FDA to re-inspect all the canteens which have been issued licenses,” said Sawant in the Assembly while responding to a concern raised by BJP legislator Nilesh Cabral.Cabral said govt should regularly inspect departmental canteens for hygiene, potable water, pest control, and food storage measures. He said govt should ensure compliance and must not compromise on food safety.The MLA raised concerns after an FDA inspection found major structural and hygiene lapses at three govt office canteens in Porvorim, which were ordered to shut during a surveillance drive.
