Bengaluru: A city court Monday remanded IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar and Tumakuru University syndicate member Basavaraj N Kannale to CID custody for 10 days in connection with alleged irregularities in the veterinary examination conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC).While Gangwar was arrested following his appearance before CID, Kannale was detained in Delhi Sunday evening.Gangwar’s counsel requested the court to grant him bail on health grounds, saying the IAS officer is suffering from a disc bulge and asthma that need treatment. A public prosecutor, however, objected to the request and told the court that he had already been subjected to a medical test and that there was no such emergency.The public prosecutor said Gangwar was arrested Saturday night as he did not cooperate with the investigators.Kannale was allegedly in constant contact with Gangwar during the examination, and CID claims to have obtained the incriminating documents on their involvement in the question paper leak.The complainants who appeared for the examination alleged that the question paper was leaked to selected candidates, the OMR sheets were tampered with, and middlemen demanded Rs 70-80 lakh for helping them pass the examination.Gyanendra was then the controller of examinations at KPSC. The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) is waiting for Gangwar’s CID custody to end to question him separately.Kannale, who is a syndicate member of Tumakuru University, is into travel and real estate business. He is also a functionary of a national political party.
