Chandigarh: The Chandigarh traffic police has announced traffic diversions and restrictions in the city ahead of the week-long protest by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), with the arrangements coming into effect from Aug 31.Members of SKM will hold a protest at the Mohali-Chandigarh border from Sept 1 to 7. With hundreds of tractor-trolleys and trucks being prepared in villages to ferry farmers and ration to the protest site, several participants are also expected to reach the venue by train and bus.The road stretch from Faidan Barrier towards Chandigarh on Purv Marg will be diverted. Traffic movement from the T-point at Sector 48 Light Point, near the wine shop and towards the internal road of Sector 48 will remain restricted.Traffic movement on road stretches from sectors 48/49 and sectors 49/50 towards Chandigarh will also remain restricted.Traffic police advised commuters to use alternate routes and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience. Commuters have also been asked to follow real-time traffic updates issued through the Chandigarh Traffic Police’s social media handles on X (@trafficchd), Instagram (@trafficchd) and Facebook (@ChandigarhTrafficPolice).Police appealed to people to cooperate with the traffic personnel, saying that the arrangements were being made to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety during the protest.
