Gurdaspur: Gurdaspur Police have busted two suspected cross-border smuggling consignments, arresting three persons and recovering 2.5 kg heroin, Rs 5,000 in suspected drug money, two firearms and 10 live rounds.The recoveries include 2.2kg heroin, a .30-bore pistol, magazine and four live rounds in the first operation, and 262 gm heroin, a .32-bore revolver and six live rounds in the second.SSP Aditya said a joint team of the special branch and Behrampur police station was patrolling the border area when it spotted two suspicious youths coming from the Dussi side. One fled into the fields, while Nishan Singh alias Sonu, 20, of Maluk Chak, Dorangla, was apprehended.Police seized the heroin, pistol, magazine and ammunition from him. Preliminary interrogation indicated that the drugs and weapons had allegedly been procured from Pakistani smugglers through a cross-border route, the SSP said.In the second operation, a Dhariwal police team stopped a motorcycle carrying two persons and recovered 262 gm heroin, Rs 5,000, a .32-bore revolver and six live rounds. The accused were identified as Dalbir Singh, 45, of Kalianpur, a retired Army personnel, and Nitish Kumar, around 30, of Dhariwal.Police are now tracing the supply chain, including handlers across the border and their contacts in Punjab. The suspect who fled in the first case is also being hunted.The arrested accused will be questioned after police remand to determine whether the consignments were part of a larger network. FIRs have been registered in both cases, the SSP said.
