BENGALURU: A Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has sentenced Syed Fasiur Rehaman to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in the Bengaluru Al-Hind ISIS terror conspiracy case.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 48,000 on Rehaman, news agency ANI reported.According to the NIA, Rehaman was involved in conspiracy meetings linked to the Al-Hind module and had purchased tents and knives from a Decathlon store for jungle-camp training of its members.The agency said the conspiracy was aimed at establishing an ISIS/Daesh wilayah (province) and carrying out activities in furtherance of the banned terrorist organisation’s agenda.
Case dates back to 2020
The case was initially registered by Karnataka Police in Bengaluru on January 10, 2020.The NIA subsequently took over the investigation and re-registered the case on January 23, 2020.The agency has so far filed three chargesheets against 20 accused in the case.Rehaman is the second accused to be convicted in the case.Earlier, Mohammed Haneef Khan was convicted by the special NIA court in July 2026 after pleading guilty and was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 48,000.
What NIA probe found
According to the NIA investigation, the conspiracy was allegedly masterminded by Mehaboob Pasha, who held meetings at his residence in Gurappanapalya, Bengaluru.The accused allegedly discussed plans to carry out targeted killings and other activities aimed at creating communal unrest and advancing the agenda of the proscribed ISIS, the agency said.The NIA had earlier said that the accused formed a group initiated by ISIS terrorists Mehboob Pasha and Khaja Moideen to carry out terrorist activities, particularly in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.The agency’s investigation had also identified jungle locations in Karnataka, including areas around Shivanasamudra and Gundlupet, as potential sites for training camps and hideouts for members of the alleged Al-Hind module.The NIA said its investigation is continuing to trace an online handler who allegedly planned and conspired to establish the module.
