Lucknow: A joint team of the drug enforcement department and police seized a large quantity of prohibited medicines, including codeine-based cough syrup, during a raid at a medical store and arrested two accused in Shravasti district.The action followed the circulation of a video showing the sale of codeine-containing syrup from a house in Badla Baijnathpur village under the Hardatt Nagar Girant police station area.ASP Chandrakesh Singh said the authorities had received confidential information about the sale of prohibited medicines. Following the tip-off, drug inspector Shrikant Gupta and Hardatt Nagar Girant police station in charge Mahilanath Upadhyay, along with their teams, conducted the raid.During the operation, officials recovered 437 bottles of 100ml Anrex syrup containing codeine and 121 bottles of Choco DX syrup. A total of 558 bottles of the prohibited syrups were seized.The team also recovered 11,280 Proxihom Spas capsules packed in 47 boxes, 2,160 Semplux Plus tablets packed in nine boxes and 3,600 Alprazone 0.5 tablets packed in six boxes.According to the police, all the recovered syrups and medicines fall under the category of prohibited or restricted drugs. The seizure is being examined as part of the investigation into their alleged illegal sale and distribution.The two men arrested in connection with the case have been identified as Shivaji, a resident of Panditpurwa in Jot Chandpara village under Hardi police station in Bahraich district, and Bharat Kumar, a resident of Gosainpurwa, also in Bahraich.An FIR has been registered against the two accused. They were subsequently produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.Police and drug enforcement officials are now investigating the source of the prohibited medicines and determining whether the accused were part of a larger network involved in the illegal supply and distribution of codeine-based syrups and other restricted medicines.
