Karnataka landmarks to glow pink on Gruha Lakshmi anniversary
Karnataka’s iconic landmarks including Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, Mysuru Palace in Mysuru to be illuminated in pink on August 30 to mark three years of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.

Bengaluru: Karnataka’s iconic landmarks will turn pink Sunday evening as the state govt marks three years of its flagship Gruha Lakshmi scheme, celebrating what it describes as a major milestone in its women-focused welfare agenda.Monuments including Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi and Mysore Palace will be illuminated in pink from 6pm to 10pm on Aug 30. The illumination will also extend to Chitradurga Fort, the Stone Chariot at Hampi, the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner’s office building in Mangaluru and Kittur Chennamma Circle in Belagavi.The pink illumination is being planned as a visual tribute to women and the impact of the scheme, with the colour symbolising women’s pride.Launched as one of the Congress-led state govt’s flagship guarantee programmes, Gruha Lakshmi provides Rs 2,000 a month to the woman head of each household.As the scheme completes three years, the govt is highlighting its reach. More than Rs 76,500 crore has so far been transferred directly into the accounts of 1.2 crore beneficiaries, according to the govt.
