GURGAON: An eight-year-old boy was crushed to death by a road roller while playing at a cricket training academy in Kakrola, IMT Manesar, on Friday afternoon.The deceased, identified as Akash Kumar, was playing cricket with his elder brother Neel and two other children around 1pm when the accident occurred. A road roller weighing around 750kg had been kept at the academy to level the pitch and ground.According to police, the four children climbed onto the road roller while playing. One of them accidentally switched on its miniature circuit breaker (MCB), causing the machine to start moving. With no one present to supervise the equipment, the children began moving the roller back and forth.Aakash suddenly fell in front of the moving machine and came under its wheels. He suffered fatal injuries and died at the spot. The three other children fled the academy after the accident.The family initially did not realise the gravity of the incident. Neel returned home and told his family that Akash had suffered an injury. The family members began looking for Akash, unaware that he had been involved in a serious accident at the academy.Meanwhile, some players who reached the academy found Aakash lying on the ground in a pool of blood and alerted others. The family then arranged a vehicle and rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.The family learnt about Aakash’s death nearly an hour after the accident. Relatives said the child had remained at the spot for a considerable period before being taken to hospital.Aakash’s family is originally from Nalanda district in Bihar and has been living in the city for around two decades. The family has seven children.A police officer at Kherki Daula police station said the family had not raised any allegation of negligence or suspected a criminal act in connection with the death.Police initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita on the basis of the family’s written statement. The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem examination on Friday.
