CHANDIGARH: The death of social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, who succumbed to burn injuries 54 days after she was allegedly abducted and set on fire, has also brought under scrutiny the alleged delay in recording her statement during treatment.Sources said Kaur had sought to get her statement recorded after she regained consciousness while undergoing treatment.However, the family has alleged that no case was registered during the nearly two months she remained hospitalised.The allegations have raised questions over the handling of the case and whether Kaur’s statement could have been recorded earlier during her treatment.Kaur’s family has alleged that she had attempted to seek police intervention and have her version recorded after regaining consciousness.
Punjab Police denies negligence allegations
Punjab Police, however, has denied allegations of negligence in the matter.According to police, the alleged abduction took place in Chandigarh and therefore the initial action in the case was to be taken by Chandigarh Police.Punjab Police said Kharar police had provided full assistance to Kaur’s mother and facilitated the registration of the FIR.The police response came amid allegations by the family that there was a delay in taking action while Kaur was undergoing treatment.Kaur died after battling her injuries for 54 days.She had allegedly been abducted from Chandigarh, tied to a tree and set on fire before being found and admitted to hospital.The circumstances surrounding the alleged delay in recording her statement and the sequence of police action are likely to remain part of the investigation.
