3 held in Guwahati with Rs3.5cr heroin

Guwahati: Assam STF arrested three alleged drug traffickers and seized over 300g of suspected heroin valued at around Rs 3.5 crore on Thursday night.STF senior superintendent of police Pranab Kumar Pegu said the operation was based on information about a consignment.The suspects were identified as Kiran Singha of Cachar and S Nengpi Vaiphei and Ngaineichong of Imphal East and Churachandpur in Manipur.“According to the information provided to us, the two women brought the drugs from Mizoram to Guwahati by train,” the SSP said.The drugs were worth around Rs 3.5 crore, Pegu said. He said the women had brought the consignment to Guwahati to hand it over to Singha.Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said a new route had emerged from Myanmar through Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district to Tinsukia.“For so many days, drugs had been coming through the usual routes. But now, a new route has emerged — from Myanmar through Changlang, then from Changlang to Tinsukia. A new corridor has started. Earlier, drugs used to come through the Mizoram–Myanmar and Manipur–Myanmar routes. But now drugs are coming through the Arunachal Pradesh–Myanmar border,” Sarma said.
