Pune: A 46-year-old farmer from Phursungi was allegedly duped of Rs40 lakh by paying ‘insurance premium’ to a man posing as an insurance agent.Phursungi police registered a case on Thursday. The farmer had two insurance policies, one worth Rs15 lakh in his name and another worth Rs10 lakh in the name of his 12-year-old sonAn officer from Phursungi police said, “In Dec 2025, a man claiming to be an agent of the insurance company called him and asked to deposit Rs 15 lakh towards the premium. The complainant transferred the amount through RTGS. He subsequently received messages asking him to transfer more money towards the premium, transferring a total of Rs40 lakh.”The complainant repeatedly asked the agent for receipts. However, the man told him that the policy had to be surrendered and renewed. “Suspecting something was amiss, the complainant visited the insurance company’s office in Mumbai and found the company had not received any payment from him since December 2025. He also found that no employee or agent with that name worked for the company,” the officer added.
