Guwahati: At least 10 people from Assam have been reported missing in Nepal following the flash flood incident, according to Assam disaster management authorities on Friday.The list includes three persons from Karbi Anglong—Rhituopurno Brahma, Montri Basumatary and Soneswar Narzary—who are from Daidak village under Dokmoka police station in the district. The three had reportedly travelled to Nepal in search of work about two weeks back.Others on the list are Rahul Daimary of Golaghat, Shatadal Nath of Hojai, two persons from Nalbari—Arun Mahanta and Dr Tirtha Chaliha of Nalbari Medical College and Hospital—and three from Guwahati—Dr Dipali Sarkar, Pankaj Naug and Manash Kunar Ghosh.Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the state govt was coordinating with the families and agencies concerned.“We are aware of people from Assam stranded in Nepal amid the ongoing floods. We are in touch with their families and coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure their safety and earliest possible return home,” Sarma posted on X.At Assam Bhawan in New Delhi, a dedicated help desk has been receiving distress calls from families trying to establish contact with relatives in Nepal.An official said families of two persons of Nalbari—Pankaj Barman and Samar Bezbaruah—were able to establish contact with them later in the evening.Another worker from Doboka, Gautam Das, also employed with a power company, survived the disaster and subsequently contacted his family.
