Ahmedabad: A man serving a life sentence in a murder case and currently out on suspension of sentence was arrested along with an accomplice for allegedly murdering a 40-year-old man in Krishnanagar on Thursday night.Krishnanagar police inspector V H Joshi said the accused were identified as Bharat Chunara, a resident of Vasantnagar Chhapra, and Rohit Dantani. Police said Bharat was convicted in a 2020 murder case and had recently been released on suspension of sentence. Investigators believe the latest killing was the fallout of a long-standing rivalry between two groups.According to the FIR lodged by the victim’s younger brother, Vikram Sonkar, the deceased, Dilip Sonkar, was associated with Sandeep Diwakar and Kamlesh Kadbe. In 2018, the trio allegedly assaulted Vijay Chunara in Vasantnagar Chhapra.Police said the dispute intensified over the years. In 2020, Vijay Chunara, his brother Bharat and others allegedly killed Dilip’s friend, Dharmesh Marathi. A murder case was registered at Krishnanagar police station, and Bharat, Vijay and the other accused were later convicted. Both Bharat and Vijay were sentenced to life imprisonment, though Bharat was subsequently released on suspension of sentence.According to the complaint, Dilip was found critically injured near the Thakkarnagar water tank on Thursday night. Vikram and Dilip’s wife rushed him to Civil Hospital.In his complaint, Vikram stated that before losing consciousness, Dilip told family members that Bharat and Rohit had attacked him over the old enmity and stabbed him.Police said Dilip had sustained a head injury and two stab wounds on his right thigh. Doctors declared him dead on arrival at the hospital.
