Aizawl: Mizoram agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister PC Vanlalruata on Friday inaugurated an edible oil processing plant in Falkawn village near Aizawl. A trial run of the plant’s machinery was also conducted in the minister’s presence.Vanlalruata said the state govt was giving priority to increasing the production of ginger, sunflower, pigeon pea, mustard and sesame, while making concerted efforts to improve market linkages for farmers.The agriculture and farmers’ welfare department was also taking steps in convergence with Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) schemes to support cultivators through cooperative societies, the minister said.The department selected the Aizawl City Oilseed Growers and Processing Cooperative Society Ltd to maintain the plant’s machinery for five years. An MoU to this effect was signed between the cooperative society and the state agriculture and farmers’ welfare department.
