Lucknow: The city is set to get its first fragrance park, adding a new attraction to the Hussainabad heritage zone in the Old City. Developed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), the park spreads across around 2.3 acres opposite the historic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower), developed at the cost of about Rs 4 crore. The park is first of its kind in the state.Defence minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh is set to inaugurate the park on Saturday, which has been designed to offer visitors an immersive experience of fragrant flowers and plants.The park features a wide range of indigenous aromatic varieties, including jasmine, champa (Magnolia), parijaat (harsingar) and chandni, along with imported flowering and fragrant plants. Experts from the National Botanical Research Institute helped select the plants.The landscaping has been planned so that different varieties bloom in different seasons, allowing visitors to experience changing fragrances throughout the year. The park will also have trees and other ornamental plants.Besides the gardens, the facility includes a cafeteria, open theatre, pergola and gazebo. Braille information panels were also installed for visually impaired visitors, while ramps make the park more accessible.An LDA official said the park’s location in the Hussainabad heritage zone would help draw tourists. The area, located between the Chhota Imambara and Bada Imambara, is among Lucknow’s major tourist destinations.The fragrance park is part of the LDA’s broader plan to improve the Hussainabad heritage zone and add new attractions for visitors.
