Varanasi: A 36-year-old man was lynched by a mob after his car hit a woman washing utensils along the road in Ghamhapur village under Phulpur police station late on Sunday night.In view of tension prevailing in Ghamhapur village, heavy police force conducted a foot march but it could not stop the family of the deceased and their supporters from staging a massive demonstration, blocking the road when the body reached his home following the post-mortem examination.DCP of Gomti zone, Neetu Kadian and ACP Atul Anjan Tripathi on Monday afternoon succeeded in convincing protestors to call off their stir and take the body for cremation by telling them that the guilty will not be spared in this connection. Officials said that on the complaint of the family of the deceased Manish Singh, an FIR against eight identified and seven unidentified persons was lodged and two of them were arrested. Kadian said that teams were engaged to arrest all accused.Earlier, around 10.30pm on Sunday, Manish was returning home in his car in Ghamhapur village. The car went out of control while passing through the village road and hit Bindu Prajapati, who was washing utensils on the roadside. She suffered injuries in this accident.Manish came out of his car to check on Prajapati. However, he was assaulted by her family members and neighbours. Manish suffered critical injuries in this attack by a mob. His family rushed Manish to Trauma Centre, BHU, where doctors declared him dead.Based on the complaint of Manish’s family, the FIR was lodged and two accused were arrested.Before Manish’s body could reach his residence after the post-mortem examination, hundreds of his relatives and well-wishers gathered. In view of the tension in the village, the DCP and ADCP (Gomti), along with heavy police forces and PAC, camped in the village and also took out a foot march.
