Excise raid at Mohali cafe, whisky seized

Mohali: Acting on a tip-off, the excise department raided a cafe and lounge in TDI City, Sector 118, Mohali, and seized liquor allegedly being served without a valid licence or permit.During the raid at The Amigos Cafe & Lounge (SCO 45) Wednesday, officials seized three bottles of Royal Stag whisky bearing the mark “For Sale in Punjab Only”. The liquor was allegedly being served to customers in violation of excise rules.The operation was conducted by a team led by excise inspector Ashok Kumar of the Kharar Circle under the supervision of excise officer Dewan Chand. Senior excise officials, including deputy commissioner (excise) Khushdil Singh Sandhu and assistant commissioner (excise) Ashok Chalotra, monitored the enforcement action.The accused was identified as Rahul Choudhary, a resident of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh, who was operating the establishment.Excise officials said a case under Section 68(1)(14) of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, is being registered at Balongi police station.The raid was part of the department’s ongoing drive against excise violations and unauthorised sale of liquor in the district.
