Varanasi: A 45-year-old brick-kiln worker was allegedly beaten to death in Varanasi’s Cholapur area over suspicion of theft.The deceased was identified as Ram Janam, a resident of Dharayan village in Chandauli district.According to police, a brick-kiln owner accused Ram Janam of theft and allegedly assaulted him with sticks along with three associates.After his condition deteriorated eventually leading to his death, the accused allegedly abandoned his body in the Gosaipur area.On receiving information, police took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem examination. Family members later reached the hospital and identified the deceased.The postmortem examination confirmed that Ram Janam died due to multiple injuries.Police launched an investigation and late Wednesday detained two accused, identified as Ajay Singh (35) and Vishal Singh (34).During the probe, police recovered a video of the incident that had allegedly been secretly recorded by another worker. In the video, Ram Janam can reportedly be seen being assaulted with sticks.Police said efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused and further legal action is being taken against the detained individuals.
