Teen critical after gang attack in Derabassi, fingers chopped off

Mohali: An 18-year-old youth is battling for his life after being allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons by a group of motorcycle-borne assailants in Derabassi Wednesday evening. The attack reportedly severed fingers on both his hands and left him with severe head injuries.The victim, Adil Khan, was working near SS Jain Senior Secondary School when around six youths on motorcycles allegedly descended on him at about 8.30 pm and assaulted him with sharp weapons.According to police and family members, the attackers repeatedly struck Adil on the head and hands before fleeing the spot. Local shopkeepers rushed the injured youth to the civil hospital in Derabassi.Adil’s uncle, Aamir Khan, alleged that fingers on both of the victim’s hands were severed in the assault. He said the youth also suffered a serious head injury.Given the severity of his condition, doctors referred Adil to Govt Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh. He was later shifted to PGI Chandigarh for specialised treatment. Family members said his condition remains critical.Police reached the scene after receiving information and have launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to identify the assailants and establish the sequence of events.Officials said the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, while efforts are under way to trace the motorcycle-borne youths involved in the assault.
