Kolkata: A 27-year-old biker was detained by Karaya Police after allegedly assaulting, abusing, and issuing death threats to an on-duty sergeant near the southern flank of 4 Number Bridge on Monday. The incident occurred while the complainant, sergeant Abhishek Das, was flagging down bikers violating traffic laws and prosecuting them.According to the complaint, Das stopped a bike after observing that the rider did not have a helmet on. Following standard procedure, Das initiated an official case for the traffic violation. Upon being informed of the prosecution, the biker dismounted and aggressively confronted the officer, hurling abuse.The confrontation escalated when the rider physically attacked Das. The assailant also issued death threats and warned Das of dire criminal consequences before leaving the spot. He also called up his accomplices to reach the spot.The injured sergeant subsequently proceeded to the nearest hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the assault. Local inquiries identified the accused as Samir Khan (27), a resident of Ghulam Jalani Khan Lane in the Tiljala area, and he was later detained.
