Ahmedabad: Gujarat University (GU) has made internships compulsory for students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses appearing as external candidates, aligning the requirement with the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP). The move had initially triggered confusion among students over the process, duration and evaluation system, prompting the university to issue detailed guidelines.According to the revised instructions, external students must complete their internship and submit a copy of the internship certificate by May 31. The university has warned that semester 6 results of students who fail to submit the certificate within the deadline will be withheld.Students have been asked to submit an internship certificate signed by a responsible authority, employer or supervisor. The report must also mention details such as the company name, training subject, work experience, references and challenges faced during the internship. The internship will carry a total of four credits, equivalent to 100 marks. Of these, 50 marks will be based on completion and assessment of the internship, while the remaining 50 marks will be calculated as half of the student’s semester 5 percentage. The final internship score will be awarded out of 100 marks. The decision had caused concern among many external students, especially those from rural areas. Several students complained that they were not getting proper guidance from university officials.
