Palanpur: The Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), Palanpur unit, seized 434kg of loose ghee worth Rs 2.49 lakh during an inspection of a unit suspected of manufacturing and selling adulterated ghee in Deesa.During the inspection, officials found that the unit at Mavjat Food Products was allegedly manufacturing and selling suspected ghee. Samples of the loose ghee were collected and sent to the govt food laboratory for quality testing.Following collection of the samples, officials seized and sealed the remaining 434 kg of loose ghee valued at Rs 2.49 lakh at the premises.As the inspection indicated that proprietor Prakashkumar Vrajlal Modi was involved in the manufacture and sale of suspected ghee, the department has initiated legal proceedings against him under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.In Patan, FDCA teams conducted an intensive drive in Santalpur, Varahi and Radhanpur to check iodine levels in edible salt available in the market. During the inspection, officials found a suspected stock of salt at Shraddha Trading Co., on the highway in Radhanpur. Officials seized 596 kg of refined free flow iodised salt. During the drive, salt samples available at 26 grocery shops, wholesalers and local restaurants were tested on the spot using a rapid testing kit.
