Kolkata: A multi-agency inspection was conducted at Mitra Institution following a snakebite incident involving a class 1 student. However, the snake has not been found yet. The school has sent a detailed report to the school education department on the measures taken after the incident.Dipra Pal, a class 1 student, was bitten by a venomous snake in the school compound during the tiffin break on Monday. He remains admitted to the ICU at SSKM Hospital. The child was administered anti-venom injections after blood reports confirmed that the snake was venomous.A team from the Kolkata district inspector’s office visited the school and examined CCTV footage from the ground-floor corridor and adjacent classrooms to locate the snake. However, sources said the snake was not clearly visible in the footage. After a two-day search, forest department officials said they found no snake inside or outside the premises. Officials were also surprised at how the snake could have entered the premises, as there are no forest-like areas or water bodies nearby where such snakes typically reside.Meanwhile, the school underwent pest- and snake-control treatment. After discussions with school education department officials, the authorities decided to resume classes on Thursday.Headmaster Raja Dey said, “The teachers and staff of the morning session responded immediately when they learnt about the incident and rushed to SSKM. It is natural for parents to panic after hearing about this. We tried to find the snake, but after two days of searching, the forest department did not find anything. Since we have a holiday tomorrow, we are planning to reopen the school on Thursday.”Hospital sources said the child is recovering. Dipankar Das, his maternal uncle, said, “We spent a sleepless night yesterday, but today he is much better. We are hopeful that he will be discharged from the hospital very shortly.”
