Hyderabad: More than 10 years after a road accident in which three generations of a family, including nine-year-old Ramya, were killed, her family members said they are still awaiting justice. Ramya’s family has demanded amendments to the Excise Act to ensure that establishments serving liquor to underage persons face strict punishment.Ramya’s father Venkat Ramana, said the accident case is pending before the Nampally court and that one of the two accused, Vineet, is still in the US after managing to go abroad while he was out on bail. “An NBW is still pending. The trial against the other accused, Shravil, is also pending. The accused consumed liquor in TGIF Pub in Banjara Hills before the accident,” he claimed.On July 1, 2016, a group of family members were returning home to Rajeev Nagar via the Panjagutta flyover after picking up Ramya from her school in Begumpet. A car, allegedly driven by Shravil in an inebriated condition, rammed into a road divider near the Panjagutta graveyard and flipped onto the other side of the road, resulting in a collision. The crash claimed the lives of Ramya, her uncle P Rajesh, and her grandfather Madhusudhana Chary.“Justice has been eluding us from a long time. We have been asking the police to pursue the case in court. Though Banjara Hills police sought Interpol’s help in bringing Vineet back, the officials have not succeeded,’’ Ramya’s father told TOI. He said establishments that serve liquor to underage persons should be taken to task.“In our case, TGIF was let off after being fined Rs 1 lakh. One has to understand that liquor-serving establishments are the source of the problem. For serving liquor to underage persons, heavy compensation should be levied for the offence, and the amount should be paid to the victim’s family,’’ Ramana further said.
