Kolkata: In a move to ensure neutral administrative conduct during the second phase of the Bengal assembly elections, Lalbazar has suspended a veteran Kolkata Police constable for political expression and sharing content on social media that can disturb communal harmony.Constable Ramkrishna Kayal, a member of the 1st Battalion of Kolkata Armed Police with 23 years of service, was placed under suspension on Monday. The disciplinary action follows a 23-minute video posted by him on Facebook on April 26, in which he reportedly criticised the Trinamool govt. The footage went viral within hours, prompting an immediate investigation by the city’s police headquarters.The suspension comes less than two weeks after police commissioner Ajay Nand issued a stern directive regarding digital behaviour of the force.
