Higher education minister P Viswanathan on Monday announced that the Tamil Nadu govt will recruit 6,000 assistant professors for govt arts and science colleges, engineering colleges and polytechnic colleges in three phases.Replying to the debate on demand for grants for higher education, he also announced upgradation of Teachers Recruitment Board to conduct recruitment for higher educational institutions.The minister also announced promotion for faculty members working in govt, govt-aided arts and science colleges and polytechnic colleges. He also announced a salary increase from Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 for 8,000 guest lecturers in govt colleges and Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 for guest lecturers working in polytechnic colleges.Viswanathan also announced a new education guarantee scheme to ensure collateral-free education loans up to Rs 20 lakh to students. The govt will create a corpus fund for this scheme. He also announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to 50 transgenders joining higher educational institutions.
