NEW DELHI: BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has hit out at several Bollywood personalities, including Ashutosh Rana, Taapsee Pannu and Sonu Sood, accusing them of repeatedly making remarks against her to gain media attention.Ranaut said she would not pay heed to criticism from people whom she described as having achieved “not even 1%” of her success.Speaking to ANI, Ranaut said, “Every day, I see people like Ashutosh Rana, who says I bark like a dog, or the likes of Sonu Sood. Then there are people like Rakhi Sawant, who make all sorts of remarks about my character, and Taapsee Pannu, who insults my parents, my upbringing, and my background.”“I have just one message for these people: if you haven’t achieved even 1% of the success I have in life, I am not going to listen to you. These are all failed, completely irrelevant people who constantly hurl abuse at me just to get media attention,” she added.Ranaut said she would not tolerate such remarks and alleged that the personalities were trying to use her name to remain relevant.
What triggered Kangana’s latest attack?
Ranaut’s latest remarks come amid a series of public exchanges with celebrities over her comments on Gen Z protesters.In July, Ranaut had criticised the language used by young protesters during demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and referred to some of them as “Generation Gutter”.She also objected to abusive language directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother.The comments triggered a backlash from several personalities, including Sonu Sood and Rakhi Sawant. Sood criticised Ranaut’s remarks and said it was important to think carefully before speaking.Sawant also hit back at Ranaut over the remarks, calling her a “gutter mouth” and “witch” in a video shared on Instagram.
Taapsee-Kangana feud resurfaces
Ranaut also took aim at Taapsee Pannu amid a fresh escalation in their long-running public feud.The two actresses have been at odds since 2019-20, when Taapsee became embroiled in a controversy after Kangana’s sister Rangoli Chandel accused her of copying Kangana and called her a “sasti copy”.Taapsee had then said she considered being compared to a good actress like Kangana a compliment.The latest exchange began after Taapsee, speaking about their differences, said she had never met Kangana either before or after the controversy.She said her opinion of Kangana reflected differences in their upbringing and ways of perceiving things.Ranaut subsequently accused Taapsee of ridiculing her upbringing and parents, calling her a “sasti copy”. Taapsee later appeared to respond through a cryptic Instagram Story saying, “Hence, proved.”
Kangana-Ramdev spat
Ranaut also criticised yoga guru Baba Ramdev, saying his comments about women had crossed “every boundary of decency”.The two have recently been involved in a public spat after Ramdev criticised Ranaut’s “gutter generation” remark. He questioned her past while saying that calling the country’s youth “gutter” was wrong.Ranaut responded by telling Ramdev not to “daydream” about her youth or bedroom and said he had no right to give her lessons on character.In her latest remarks, Ranaut said Ramdev needed to reflect on his perspective towards women.
