GURGAON: Amit Gupta, the managing director of Orris Infrastructure, was arrested by Mumbai police over allegations of forgery, cheating, criminal breach of trust and conspiracy in a dispute with Godrej Properties involving a project in Gurgaon. The police action has stirred anxiety among 1,650 homebuyers of the stalled Greenopolis project in Sector 89, fearing that fresh legal trouble could further complicate their long wait for possession.Gupta was arrested in connection with FIR number 0183/2026 – registered at Vikhroli police station on March 17 on a complaint by Nishikant Bapusaheb Patil, an adviser in Godrej Properties’ legal and secretarial department. Gupta has been remanded in police custody till Aug 27.So, what is the case about?The Mumbai FIR involves Godrej Air, a Gurgaon project in which Godrej Developers & Properties LLP and Orris were partners. Godrej Properties has alleged that statutory records of the LLP filed with the registrar of companies were altered without authorisation and false documents were used for the filings.The complaint talks about Form-3 allegedly filed with the registrar of companies on Jan 14 this year. Godrej has alleged that its nominated partner was removed from the records without its consent and another person was shown as a partner. It has also questioned an alleged transfer of its 37.5% interest in the LLP.The FIR invokes various BNS provisions relating to forgery, cheating, criminal breach of trust, use of forged documents and criminal conspiracy. The allegations are yet to be established in court.Importantly, the Mumbai case is separate from Greenopolis and the FIR contains no allegation related to that project. Yet, the arrest has revived concerns among its buyers, many of whom said they paid substantial amounts before construction stalled and are still awaiting possession while meeting financial commitments.Buyers have also raised concerns over allotments and transactions involving completed inventory, including possible third-party interests. They urged authorities to examine their grievances independently, protect bonafide purchasers and prevent further creation of third-party rights until competing claims are settled.The Enforcement Directorate has previously investigated Orris Infrastructure and its directors in an alleged large-scale real estate fraud case. A separate FIR was registered at Kherki Daula police station in July over a land collaboration dispute. Those allegations are also under investigation.Repeated calls and text messages to Orris for a response on the matter remained unanswered till late on Sunday evening.
