Sahar police register FIR against two agents for flat fraud

Mumbai: Sahar police registered an FIR against two bank agents for allegedly cheating a property seller and a prospective buyer in connection with a Rs 1.35 crore flat deal. Police said the accused opened a bank account in the buyer’s name without his permission, obtained a loan in his name, and opened an account in another bank in the seller’s name without his consent.The complainant, Lionel Veloj (46), a resident of Wadala East, was engaged in the real estate business and purchased a 3BHK flat in Dombivli in 2022. Police said he decided to sell it in 2024 and later came in contact with a real estate agent who introduced him to a prospective buyer.Police said the buyer, Nelson, liked the flat and agreed to buy it for Rs 1.35 crore. They said he initially paid Veloj a token amount of Rs 1 lakh and later made a few additional payments.During the transaction, police said the agent and buyer introduced two men to Veloj, claiming they were bank agents who would assist with financial formalities. Police said the duo collected documents from the seller and used them to procure Rs 98 lakh without Veloj’s knowledge using forged documents and his fake signature.
