Gurgaon: Eight years after the launch of a housing project, “only around 10% of the construction” has been completed, claimed the buyers, who staged a protest on Sunday.Buyers of OSB Golf Heights in Sector 69 alleged that construction has remained virtually shut for nearly three years, even though several of them have already paid up to 87.5% of the flat cost.The project was launched in 2018 under Haryana govt’s affordable housing scheme. According to buyers, projects under the scheme were required to be completed within four years.With patience running out, a large group of buyers gathered at the stalled project site, demanding immediate resumption of construction and possession of their flats.They warned that if construction does not restart soon and authorities fail to provide a clear completion plan, they will “intensify” their agitation. The developer’s response could not be obtained despite attempts to contact the company.The protesters said they had invested in the project believing that the govt-backed affordable housing scheme would provide greater certainty about timely delivery. Instead, they have been left waiting for years with no clear timeline for completion.“We have paid a substantial portion of the flat cost, but there is no clarity on when we will get our homes,” said the buyers. Several buyers said they had taken bank loans to purchase the flats and continued to bear monthly EMIs despite having no certainty about possession.Buyers said they had repeatedly approached the department of town and country planning and Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (Hera), seeking intervention and information about the project’s future. They alleged that despite their repeated visits to govt offices, they had not received a concrete roadmap for restarting and completing construction.The buyers also raised concerns over the legal troubles faced by the developer. They alleged that OSB group managing director Swaraj Singh Yadav was arrested by Enforcement Directorate last year in connection with allegations relating to alleged misuse of flat buyers’ funds and remains lodged in Tihar jail.Buyers said that while the legal proceedings were continuing, their immediate concern was the fate of the unfinished project and their homes.Prakhar, Captain Ajay Yadav, Bhavuk, Kishan, Bhupender, Rajesh, Sudhir and Aditya were among those who participated in the protest. They said they had trusted Haryana govt’s affordable housing policy and the regulatory system while investing in the project.“Govt must intervene and ensure that construction resumes and the project is completed at the earliest,” the buyers said.
