Kota: A five-year-old girl was seriously injured after being mauled by a stray dog in Bengali Colony here Saturday. CCTV footage of the incident showed the dog dragging the child by its teeth before neighbours intervened and rescued her.The incident occurred around 7:15pm when the girl was playing in the alley outside her house. The stray dog reportedly knocked her down and dragged her along the pavement while biting her repeatedly.Her frantic screams quickly brought neighbours onto the scene, who managed to free the girl, but not before she sustained deep wounds on her head, back and hands. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.Although the local ward representative visited the site and summoned a municipal team to capture the dog, residents claimed this was not an isolated event. A sanitation worker was earlier mauled by a stray dog in the same area, they said.When contacted, KMC commissioner OP Mehra said, “Under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, captured stray dogs are sterilised and released back to the same locality after a few days, in compliance with Supreme Court guidelines”.He added that construction of a dedicated 700-capacity dog shelter is underway in the city’s Banda Dharampura area to tackle aggressive dogs.
